The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by one of the walled gardens of Mecca or Medina and heard the voices of two people being tormented in their graves. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "They are being tormented, and they are not being tormented for anything major." Then he said, "Yes indeed. One of them did not take care to shield himself from his urine, and the other used to go about spreading malicious gossip."Then he called for a fresh palm branch, broke it into two pieces, and placed one piece on each grave.Someone asked him, "Messenger of Allah, why did you do this?"He replied, "Perhaps it will lighten their torment as long as the branches do not dry out," or, "until they dry out."
