A man died at Khaybar, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Pray over your companion, for he stole from the spoils taken in the cause of Allah." We searched through his belongings and found among them some beads from the beads of the Jews, worth no more than two dirhams.
أخبرنا عبيد الله بن سعيد قال حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن يحيى بن سعيد الأنصاري عن محمد بن يحيى بن حبان عن أبي عمرة
مات رجل بخيبر فقال رسول الله ﷺ صلوا على صاحبكم إنه غل في سبيل الله ففتشنا متاعه فوجدنا فيه خرزا من خرز يهود ما يساوي درهمين
Its chain of transmission is hasan. It was reported by Abu Dawud in the chapter on jihad, section on the seriousness of misappropriating war spoils, hadith 2710, and by Ibn Majah in the chapter on jihad, section on misappropriating war spoils, hadith 2848, from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed Qattan with this wording. It is also found in al-Kubra, hadith 2086. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih in al-Ihsan, hadith 4833, as did Ibn Jarud, hadith 1081, and Hakim, who said it meets the standard of the two Shaykhs, 2/127, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Abu Amrah is truthful (saduq), as Dhahabi said, and Ibn Hibban, Hakim, and others considered him reliable.
