I attended the funeral of Abdul-Rahman bin Samura. Ziyad set out walking in front of the bier, and some men from Abdul-Rahman's family and his freedmen began to face the bier and walk backwards on their heels, saying, "Slowly, slowly, may Allah bless you." They were creeping along at a crawl. When we reached part of the road of al-Mirbad, Abu Bakra caught up with us on a mule. When he saw what they were doing, he charged at them with his mule and swung the whip at them, saying, "Get out of the way! By the One who honored the face of Abu Qasim ﷺ, I saw us with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we were almost moving at a quick trot with the bier."So the people spread out.
[Its isnad is sahih. Abu Dawud narrated it in al-Janaiz, Bab al-Israa bil-Janazah, no. 3182, from the hadith of Uyayna bin Abdul-Rahman, through the same route. It is also found in al-Kubra, no. 2039. Hakim graded it sahih in 1/355, as did Dhahabi and Nawawi.
