The Prophet ﷺ said, "The prayers of the night and day are to be performed in pairs of two."Abu Abdul-Rahman said, "In my view, this hadith contains an error, and Allah the Exalted knows best."
Hasan. Tirmidhi reported it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on what has been said that the night and day prayers are two by two, hadith no. 597, and Ibn Majah in the Book of Establishing the Prayers, chapter on what has been said about the night and day prayers being two by two, hadith no. 1322, from Muhammad bin Bashshar with the same chain. It is also found in Sunan al-Kubra, hadith no. 472. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, hadith no. 1201, as did Ibn Hibban, hadith no. 636, and Bukhari, and Bayhaqi, and others. It has a strong corroborating witness in Hakim's Uloom Hadith, see Nayl Maqsood, hadith no. 1295.
