The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was encamped between Dajnan and Usfan, besieging the polytheists. The polytheists said, "These people have a prayer that is dearer to them than their children and their virgin daughters. Make up your minds, then fall upon them all at once."Then Jibreel came and commanded him to divide his companions into two groups. He would pray with one group while the other group faced the enemy, taking their precautions and bearing their weapons. He would pray one rakah with them, then this group would withdraw and the other would advance, and he would pray one rakah with them. So each group would have one rakah with the Prophet ﷺ, while the Prophet ﷺ would have two rakahs.
