The Prophet ﷺ was described thus, as narrated, "It is as if I am looking at the whiteness of his cheek as he turned to his right saying, 'Peace and the mercy of Allah be upon you,' and to his left saying, 'Peace and the mercy of Allah be upon you.'"
أخبرنا زيد بن أخزم عن ابن داود يعني عبد الله بن داود الخريبي عن علي بن صالح عن أبي إسحق عن أبي الأحوص
عن النبي ﷺ قال كأني أنظر إلى بياض خده عن يمينه السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وعن يساره السلام عليكم ورحمة الله
[Sahih] Recorded by Abu Dawud in "the Prayer," chapter on saying salam, no. 996, and Tirmidhi, "the Prayer," chapter on what has been said regarding saying salam in prayer, no. 295, and Ibn Majah, "Establishing the Prayers," chapter on saying salam, no. 914, from the hadith of Abu Ishaq with the same wording. He explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as recorded by Ahmad, 1/408, and it is also found in Sunan al-Kubra, no. 1245. Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Jarud, and others graded it sahih.
