Ayesha asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the punishment of the grave, and he replied, "Yes, the punishment of the grave is real."Ayesha said, "After that, I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform a prayer without seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave."
أخبرنا محمد بن بشار عن محمد قال حدثنا شعبة عن أشعث عن أبيه عن مسروق
سألت رسول الله ﷺ عن عذاب القبر فقال نعم عذاب القبر حق قالت عائشة فما رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يصلي صلاة بعد إلا تعوذ من عذاب القبر
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Funerals, chapter on what has been mentioned regarding the punishment of the grave, hadith no. 1372, from the hadith of Shubah. Muslim narrated it in the Book of Mosques, chapter on the recommendation of seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave, etc., hadith no. 126/586, from the hadith of Ashath bin Abu Shatha with the same wording. It is also in Kubra, hadith no. 1231.
