The Prophet ﷺ used to point with his finger when supplicating, without moving it.Ibn Jurayj said that Amr added, Amir bin Abdullah bin Zubayr informed me from his father that he saw the Prophet ﷺ supplicating in this manner, while leaning with his left hand on his left thigh.
[Its chain is daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in his Prayer chapter, in the section on pointing the finger during tashahhud, hadith no. 989, from the hadith of Hajjaj bin Muhammad, transmitting it in this manner, and it is also found in al-Kubra, hadith no. 1193. Ibn Ajlan narrated it using "an" without specifying direct transmission, and he was a mudallis, as Ibn Hibban and others have stated.
