[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on pebbles during prayer, hadith no. 945, Tirmidhi in the Book of Prayer, chapter on what has been said regarding the dislike of touching pebbles during prayer, hadith no. 379, and Ibn Majah in the Book of Establishing Prayers, chapter on touching pebbles during prayer, hadith no. 1027, all from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna through this same route. It is also found in al-Kubra, hadith nos. 532 and 1114. Tirmidhi said, this is a hasan hadith. Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, and Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, as did the Hafiz in Bulugh Maram, and Nawawi affirmed its strength.
