The Prophet ﷺ stood in prayer through the night until morning, repeating a single verse, the verse being "If You punish them, they are Your servants, and if You forgive them, indeed You are the Mighty, the Wise" [Maidah 5:118].
أخبرنا نوح بن حبيب قال حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد القطان قال حدثنا قدامة بن عبد الله قال حدثتني جسرة بنت دجاجة قالت سمعت
قام النبي ﷺ حتى إذا أصبح بآية والآية {إن تعذبهم فإنهم عبادك وإن تغفر لهم فإنك أنت العزيز الحكيم}
Its chain is hasan. Ibn Majah reported it in Iqamat al-Salawat, the chapter on what has come regarding recitation in the night prayer, hadith no. 1350, from the hadith of Yahya Qattan, with this chain. It is also in al-Kubra, hadith no. 1083. Busiri graded it sahih, as did Hakim (1/241), and Dhahabi.
