Three men came to Abdullah bin Amr bin As while I was with him and said, "Abu Muhammad, by Allah, we have nothing at all, no provisions, no riding animal, no goods."He replied, "Whatever you wish. If you like, you may come back to us and we will give you whatever Allah makes available for you. If you like, we will mention your case to the ruler. And if you like, you may endure patiently, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The poor among the Emigrants will enter Paradise forty years ahead of the wealthy on the Day of Resurrection.'"They said, "Then we will be patient and ask for nothing."
وجاء ثلاثة نفر إلى عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص وأنا عنده فقالوا يا أبا محمد إنا والله ما نقدر على شيء لا نفقة ولا دابة ولا متاع فقال لهم ما شئتم إن شئتم رجعتم إلينا فأعطيناكم ما يسر الله لكم وإن شئتم ذكرنا أمركم للسلطان وإن شئتم صبرتم فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن فقراء المهاجرين يسبقون الأغنياء يوم القيامة إلى الجنة بأربعين خريفا قالوا فإنا نصبر لا نسأل شيئا
