A man from the People of the Book came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Abu Qasim, Allah holds the heavens on one finger, the earths on one finger, the trees and the soil on one finger, and all creatures on one finger, and then He says, 'I am the King, I am the King.'"The narrator said, "I saw the Prophet ﷺ laugh until his back teeth showed, and then he recited, 'They have not esteemed Allah with the esteem due to Him' [Zumar 39:67]."In all of their versions it reads, "the trees on one finger and the soil on one finger." Jareer's version does not contain "and all creatures on one finger," but instead has "and the mountains on one finger." Jareer's version also adds that he laughed in confirmation of what the man said, marveling at it.
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة وأبو كريب قالا حدثنا أبو معاوية ح و حدثنا إسحق بن إبراهيم وعلي بن خشرم قالا أخبرنا عيسى بن يونس ح و حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة حدثنا جرير كلهم عن الأعمش بهذا الإسناد غير أن في حديثهم جميعا والشجر على إصبع والثرى على إصبع وليس في حديث جرير والخلائق على إصبع ولكن في حديثه والجبال على إصبع وزاد في حديث جرير تصديقا له تعجبا لما قال
