Three men gathered at the House, two from Quraysh and one from Thaqif, or two from Thaqif and one from Quraysh. Their understanding was little and the fat of their bellies was much.One of them said, "Do you think Allah hears what we say?"Another said, "He hears us if we speak aloud, but does not hear us if we lower our voices."The third said, "If He hears us when we speak aloud, then He hears us when we lower our voices."So Allah revealed, "And you were not concealing yourselves lest your hearing, your sight, or your skins testify against you" [Fussilat 41:22].

اجتمع عند البيت ثلاثة نفر قرشيان وثقفي أو ثقفيان وقرشي قليل فقه قلوبهم كثير شحم بطونهم فقال أحدهم أترون الله يسمع ما نقول وقال الآخر يسمع إن جهرنا ولا يسمع إن أخفينا وقال الآخر إن كان يسمع إذا جهرنا فهو يسمع إذا أخفينا فأنزل الله عز وجل {وما كنتم تستترون أن يشهد عليكم سمعكم ولا أبصاركم ولا جلودكم} الآية
Muslim reported the hadith of Amash, from Umara, from Wahb bin Rabia, from Abdullah, "Three men, whose hearts had little understanding, gathered together," to the end of the hadith. He said, "In this, Amash was inconsistent in his chain."Thawri narrated it this way, and Abdullah bin Bishr followed him in it. Qutba and Abu Muawiya said, from Amash, from Umara, from Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid. Abu Maryam said, from Amash, from Umara, from Zayd bin Wahb. Zayd bin Abu Unaysa said, from Amash, from Abu Duha, from Masruq. Masudi and Hasan bin Umara said, from Amash, from Abu Waail. Shuba said, from Amash, from a man, from Abdullah.It is sahih from the hadith of Mansur and Ibn Abu Najeeh, from Mujahid, from Abu Muamar.
