Urwa bin Zubayr reported,

Ayesha said to me, "Nephew, I have been told that Abdullah bin Amr will be passing by us on his way to Hajj. Go meet him and question him, for he has carried much knowledge from the Prophet ﷺ."Urwa said, "So I met him and asked him about various matters which he related from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Urwa continued, "Among the things he mentioned was that the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Allah does not snatch away knowledge from people by pulling it out of them. Rather, He takes away knowledge by taking the lives of the scholars, so that knowledge is removed along with them. Then there will remain among the people ignorant leaders who, when consulted, give verdicts without knowledge. They will go astray and lead others astray.'"Urwa said, "When I related this to Ayesha, she found it grave and rejected it. She asked, 'Is he telling you that he heard the Prophet ﷺ saying this?'"Urwa said, "Then the following year she said to me, 'Ibn Amr has arrived. Go meet him, then engage him in conversation until you ask him about the hadith he mentioned to you concerning knowledge.' So I met him and questioned him, and he related it to me in a manner similar to what he had told me the first time."Urwa said, "When I informed her of that, she said, 'I do not think but that he has spoken the truth. I see he has neither added anything to it nor taken anything away.'"
