I saw Abdullah bin Zubayr on the mountain pass of Madinah. The Quraysh and the people were passing by him until Abdullah bin Umar passed by and stopped before him. He said, "Peace be upon you, Abu Khubayb. Peace be upon you, Abu Khubayb. Peace be upon you, Abu Khubayb. By Allah, I used to forbid you from this. By Allah, I used to forbid you from this. By Allah, I used to forbid you from this. By Allah, as far as I knew, you were one who fasted much, prayed much, and maintained ties of kinship. By Allah, a nation in which you are the worst is indeed a good nation."Then Abdullah bin Umar moved on. News of Abdullah's stand and what he said reached Hajjaj, so he sent for Abdullah's body and had it taken down from the trunk and thrown into the graves of the Jews. Then he sent for his mother, Asma bint Abu Bakr, but she refused to come to him. He sent the messenger back to her saying, "You will come to me, or I will send someone to drag you by your braids."She refused and said, "By Allah, I will not come to you until you send someone to drag me by my braids."He said, "Bring me my sandals." He put on his sandals and set off briskly until he entered upon her. He said, "How did you see what I did to the enemy of Allah?"She replied, "I saw that you ruined his worldly life, while he ruined your hereafter. I have been told that you call him 'son of the woman with two waistbands.' By Allah, I am indeed the woman with two waistbands. As for one of them, I used it to lift up the food of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the food of Abu Bakr away from the animals. As for the other, it is the waistband that no woman can do without. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us that in Thakeef there would be a great liar and a great destroyer. As for the liar, we have seen him. As for the destroyer, I do not think you are anyone but him."He stood up and left her without responding.

رأيت عبد الله بن الزبير على عقبة المدينة قال فجعلت قريش تمر عليه والناس حتى مر عليه عبد الله بن عمر فوقف عليه فقال السلام عليك أبا خبيب السلام عليك أبا خبيب السلام عليك أبا خبيب أما والله لقد كنت أنهاك عن هذا أما والله لقد كنت أنهاك عن هذا أما والله لقد كنت أنهاك عن هذا أما والله إن كنت ما علمت صواما قواما وصولا للرحم أما والله لأمة أنت أشرها لأمة خير ثم نفذ عبد الله بن عمر فبلغ الحجاج موقف عبد الله وقوله فأرسل إليه فأنزل عن جذعه فألقي في قبور اليهود ثم أرسل إلى أمه أسماء بنت أبي بكر فأبت أن تأتيه فأعاد عليها الرسول لتأتيني أو لأبعثن إليك من يسحبك بقرونك قال فأبت وقالت والله لا آتيك حتى تبعث إلي من يسحبني بقروني قال فقال أروني سبتي فأخذ نعليه ثم انطلق يتوذف حتى دخل عليها فقال كيف رأيتني صنعت بعدو الله قالت رأيتك أفسدت عليه دنياه وأفسد عليك آخرتك بلغني أنك تقول له يا ابن ذات النطاقين أنا والله ذات النطاقين أما أحدهما فكنت أرفع به طعام رسول الله ﷺ وطعام أبي بكر من الدواب وأما الآخر فنطاق المرأة التي لا تستغني عنه أما إن رسول الله ﷺ حدثنا أن في ثقيف كذابا ومبيرا فأما الكذاب فرأيناه وأما المبير فلا إخالك إلا إياه قال فقام عنها ولم يراجعها
