The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them, then those who follow them."Imran said, "I do not know whether the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, after his own generation, two times or three."Then he said, "After them will come a people who bear witness without being asked to bear witness, who betray and are not to be trusted, who make vows and do not fulfill them, and among whom stoutness will appear."In their report he said, "I do not know whether he mentioned two generations after his own, or three."In the report of Shababa he said, "I heard Zahdam bin Mudarrib, and he came to me on a horse about some need, and he related to me that he heard Imran bin Husayn."In the report of Yahya and Shababa the wording is, they make vows and do not fulfill them, and in the report of Bahz the same verb appears in its other form, as Ibn Jafar had it.
حدثني محمد بن حاتم حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد ح و حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن بشر العبدي حدثنا بهز ح و حدثني محمد بن رافع حدثنا شبابة كلهم عن شعبة بهذا الإسناد وفي حديثهم قال لا أدري أذكر بعد قرنه قرنين أو ثلاثة وفي حديث شبابة قال سمعت زهدم بن مضرب وجاءني في حاجة على فرس فحدثني أنه سمع عمران بن حصين وفي حديث يحيى وشبابة ينذرون ولا يفون وفي حديث بهز يوفون كما قال ابن جعفر
