He bears witness that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of the houses of the Ansar are Banu al-Najjar, then Banu Abd al-Ashhal, then Banu Harith bin Khazraj, then Banu Saida, and in every house of the Ansar there is goodness."Abu Salama said that Abu Usayd remarked, "Could I possibly cast doubt on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Had I been lying, I would have started with my own people, Banu Saida."This reached Saad bin Ubada, and he was upset by it. He said, "We have been left behind, placed last of the four. Saddle my donkey for me so I may go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and speak to him."His nephew Sahl spoke to him and said, "Are you going to go and contradict the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ knows best? Is it not enough for you to be the fourth of four?"So he turned back and said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He gave orders concerning his donkey, and it was unsaddled.
حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى التميمي أخبرنا المغيرة بن عبد الرحمن عن أبي الزناد قال شهد أبو سلمة لسمع
يشهد أن رسول الله ﷺ قال خير دور الأنصار بنو النجار ثم بنو عبد الأشهل ثم بنو الحارث بن الخزرج ثم بنو ساعدة وفي كل دور الأنصار خير قال أبو سلمة قال أبو أسيد أتهم أنا على رسول الله ﷺ لو كنت كاذبا لبدأت بقومي بني ساعدة وبلغ ذلك سعد بن عبادة فوجد في نفسه وقال خلفنا فكنا آخر الأربع أسرجوا لي حماري آتي رسول الله ﷺ وكلمه ابن أخيه سهل فقال أتذهب لترد على رسول الله ﷺ ورسول الله ﷺ أعلم أو ليس حسبك أن تكون رابع أربع فرجع وقال الله ورسوله أعلم وأمر بحماره فحل عنه
