Ibn Masud was mentioned in the presence of Abdullah bin Amr, and he said, "That is a man I have never ceased to love since I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Learn the recitation of the Quran from four, from Ibn Masud, Salim the freedman of Abu Huzaifa, Ubayy bin Kaab, and Muaz bin Jabal.'"Shuba said that he began with these two, but added, "I do not know which of them he began with."
