We used to come to Abdullah bin Amr and converse with him. Ibn Numayr said, in his presence. One day we mentioned Abdullah bin Masud, and he said, "You have mentioned a man whom I have not ceased to love ever since I heard something from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Take the Quran from four men, from Ibn Umm Abd,'" and he began with him, "'Muaz bin Jabal, Ubayy bin Kaab, and Salim the freed slave of Abu Huzaifa.'"

كنا نأتي عبد الله بن عمرو فنتحدث إليه وقال ابن نمير عنده فذكرنا يوما عبد الله بن مسعود فقال لقد ذكرتم رجلا لا أزال أحبه بعد شيء سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول خذوا القرآن من أربعة من ابن أم عبد فبدأ به ومعاذ بن جبل وأبي بن كعب وسالم مولى أبي حذيفة
