Miswar bin Makhrama reported,

Ali bin Abu Talib proposed marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl while he was married to Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When Fatimah heard of this, she came to the Prophet ﷺ and said to him, "Your people are saying that you never grow angry on behalf of your daughters, and here is Ali about to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl."Miswar said, "The Prophet ﷺ then stood up, and I heard him give the testimony of faith, after which he said, 'Now then, I gave a daughter of mine in marriage to Abu Aas bin Rabi, and he spoke to me and proved truthful with me. Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, is a piece of my own flesh, and I hate for anyone to put her to trial. By Allah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah shall never be joined together with one man.'"Miswar said, "So Ali abandoned the proposal."
