While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in one of the gardens of Madinah, leaning back and pressing a stick he had with him into the wet ground between water and mud, a man called out asking permission to enter. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Open the gate for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise."I went and found that it was Abu Bakr, so I opened the gate for him and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Then another man called out asking permission to enter, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Open the gate for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise."I went and found that it was Umar, so I opened the gate for him and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Then another man called out asking permission to enter. The Prophet ﷺ sat upright and said, "Open the gate for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise, along with a trial that will befall him."I went and found that it was Uthman bin Affan. I opened the gate for him and gave him the glad tidings of Paradise, and I told him what the Prophet ﷺ had said.He responded, "O Allah, grant patience," or, "Allah is the One whose help is sought."
