The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him in command of the army of Dhat al-Salasil. He said, "I came to him and asked, 'Which of the people is most beloved to you?'He replied, 'Ayesha.'I asked, 'And among the men?'He said, 'Her father.'I asked, 'Then who?'He said, 'Umar.'" Then he listed Some men.

أن رسول الله ﷺ بعثه على جيش ذات السلاسل فأتيته فقلت أي الناس أحب إليك قال عائشة قلت من الرجال قال أبوها قلت ثم من قال عمر فعد رجالا
