Abu Hurairah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned several hadiths, among them this one. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The angel of death came to Musa and said to him, 'Answer your Lord.' Musa struck the angel of death in the eye and put it out. The angel returned to Allah the Exalted and said, 'You sent me to a servant of Yours who does not want to die, and he has put out my eye.' So Allah restored his eye to him and said, 'Go back to My servant and say, Is it life you want? If you want life, place your hand on the back of a bull, and for every hair your hand covers, you will live a year.' Musa asked, 'Then what?' The angel replied, 'Then you will die.' Musa said, 'Then let it be now. My Lord, bring me death within a stone's throw of the Holy Land.'"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Allah, were I there, I would show you his grave beside the road, near the red sand dune."

حدثنا أبو هريرة

عن رسول الله ﷺ فذكر أحاديث منها وقال رسول الله ﷺ جاء ملك الموت إلى موسى عليه السلام فقال له أجب ربك قال فلطم موسى عليه السلام عين ملك الموت ففقأها قال فرجع الملك إلى الله تعالى فقال إنك أرسلتني إلى عبد لك لا يريد الموت وقد فقأ عيني قال فرد الله إليه عينه وقال ارجع إلى عبدي فقل الحياة تريد فإن كنت تريد الحياة فضع يدك على متن ثور فما توارت يدك من شعرة فإنك تعيش بها سنة قال ثم مه قال ثم تموت قال فالآن من قريب رب أمتني من الأرض المقدسة رمية بحجر قال رسول الله ﷺ والله لو أني عنده لأريتكم قبره إلى جانب الطريق عند الكثيب الأحمر
