A man from the Ansar had a dispute with Zubayr in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ over the streams of al-Harrah used to irrigate the date palms. The Ansari said, "Let the water flow through." Zubayr refused, so they brought their dispute before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Zubayr, "Water your land, Zubayr, then release the water to your neighbor."The Ansari became angry and said, "Messenger of Allah, is it because he is the son of your aunt?"The face of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ changed color, then he said, "Zubayr, water your land, then hold back the water until it returns to the embankments."Zubayr said, "By Allah, I believe this verse was revealed concerning that incident, 'But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge in disputes between them, then find within themselves no discomfort' [Nisa 4:65]."
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا ليث ح و حدثنا محمد بن رمح أخبرنا الليث عن ابن شهاب عن عروة بن الزبير أن
أن رجلا من الأنصار خاصم الزبير عند رسول الله ﷺ في شراج الحرة التي يسقون بها النخل فقال الأنصاري سرح الماء يمر فأبى عليهم فاختصموا عند رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ للزبير اسق يا زبير ثم أرسل الماء إلى جارك فغضب الأنصاري فقال يا رسول الله أن كان ابن عمتك فتلون وجه نبي الله ﷺ ثم قال يا زبير اسق ثم احبس الماء حتى يرجع إلى الجدر فقال الزبير والله إني لأحسب هذه الآية نزلت في ذلك {فلا وربك لا يؤمنون حتى يحكموك فيما شجر بينهم ثم لا يجدوا في أنفسهم حرجا}
