I used to serve Zubayr with the household work, and he had a horse which I used to tend. Nothing in my service was harder on me than tending that horse. I would gather fodder for it, look after it, and groom it.Then he came into possession of a servant. The Prophet ﷺ had received some captives and gave him a servant girl.She said, "She spared me the tending of the horse and lifted that burden from me."A man came to her and said, "Umm Abdullah, I am a poor man, and I would like to sell goods in the shade of your house."She replied, "If I give you permission, Zubayr will refuse. So come and ask me when Zubayr is present."He came and said, "Umm Abdullah, I am a poor man, and I would like to sell goods in the shade of your house."She said, "Is there no place in Medina for you except my house?"Zubayr said to her, "What is the matter with you, refusing a poor man who wants to sell?"So he kept selling until he earned a profit, and I sold him the slave girl. Zubayr came in to me while her price was in my lap and said, "Give her to me as a gift."She said, "I have already given it away in charity."
حدثنا محمد بن عبيد الغبري حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن أيوب عن ابن أبي مليكة أن
كنت أخدم الزبير خدمة البيت وكان له فرس وكنت أسوسه فلم يكن من الخدمة شيء أشد علي من سياسة الفرس كنت أحتش له وأقوم عليه وأسوسه قال ثم إنها أصابت خادما جاء النبي ﷺ سبي فأعطاها خادما قالت كفتني سياسة الفرس فألقت عني مئونته فجاءني رجل فقال يا أم عبد الله إني رجل فقير أردت أن أبيع في ظل دارك قالت إني إن رخصت لك أبى ذاك الزبير فتعال فاطلب إلي والزبير شاهد فجاء فقال يا أم عبد الله إني رجل فقير أردت أن أبيع في ظل دارك فقالت ما لك بالمدينة إلا داري فقال لها الزبير ما لك أن تمنعي رجلا فقيرا يبيع فكان يبيع إلى أن كسب فبعته الجارية فدخل علي الزبير وثمنها في حجري فقال هبيها لي قالت إني قد تصدقت بها
