Sahl bin Saad reported,

Mundhir bin Abu Usayd was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was born. The Prophet ﷺ placed him on his thigh while Abu Usayd sat beside him. Then something in front of the Prophet ﷺ distracted him, so Abu Usayd instructed that his son be taken, and the boy was lifted from the thigh of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and carried away. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned his attention back, he asked, "Where is the child?"Abu Usayd replied, "We sent him back, Messenger of Allah."He asked, "What is his name?"Abu Usayd said, "Such-and-such, Messenger of Allah."He said, "No, his name is Mundhir." So on that day he named him Mundhir.
