Abdullah bin Umar reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a gold ring made, and when he wore it he would turn its stone toward the inside of his palm. The people then made similar rings for themselves. Later, he sat on the pulpit, removed the ring, and said, "I used to wear this ring with its stone turned inward." He then threw it away and said, "By Allah, I will never wear it again." So the people threw away their rings as well. The wording of this hadith belongs to Yahya.
