When Uthman had completed his wudu, he said, "By Allah, I am going to tell you a hadith. By Allah, were it not for a verse in the Book of Allah, I would never have told it to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'No man performs wudu, performing it well, and then prays a prayer, without being forgiven for whatever came between that prayer and the one that follows it.'"Urwa said the verse is "Those who conceal what We have revealed of clear proofs and guidance" up to His words "those who curse" [Baqarah 2:159].
و حدثنا زهير بن حرب حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم حدثنا أبي عن صالح قال ابن شهاب ولكن عروة يحدث
فلما توضأ عثمان قال والله لأحدثنكم حديثا والله لولا آية في كتاب الله ما حدثتكموه إني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول لا يتوضأ رجل فيحسن وضوءه ثم يصلي الصلاة إلا غفر له ما بينه وبين الصلاة التي تليها قال عروة الآية {إن الذين يكتمون ما أنزلنا من البينات والهدى} إلى قوله {اللاعنون}
