Umar saw a robe of brocade or silk being worn by a man from the family of Utarid, so he said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "If only you would buy this."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Only those who have no share in the Hereafter wear this."Later, a striped silk garment was gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he sent it to me.I said, "You have sent it to me, yet I heard you say what you said about such garments?"He answered, "I only sent it to you so that you might benefit from it."
حدثني زهير بن حرب حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن شعبة أخبرني أبو بكر بن حفص عن سالم
أن عمر رأى على رجل من آل عطارد قباء من ديباج أو حرير فقال لرسول الله ﷺ لو اشتريته فقال إنما يلبس هذا من لا خلاق له فأهدي إلى رسول الله ﷺ حلة سيراء فأرسل بها إلي قال قلت أرسلت بها إلي وقد سمعتك قلت فيها ما قلت قال إنما بعثت بها إليك لتستمتع بها
