I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ criticize any food. If he desired it, he ate it, and if he did not, he simply remained silent.
Muslim reported the hadith of Abu Muawiya, from Amash, from Abu Yahya the freedman of Jumua, from Abu Hurairah, "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, never criticized any food."Abu Muawiya differed here from a group of narrators, including Saeed, Thawri, Zaida, Zuhayr, Jareer, and Uqba bin Khalid, who reported it from Amash, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurairah. It is said that Amash would sometimes narrate it from Abu Hazim and sometimes from Abu Yahya, and Allah knows best.Muslim reported both versions together. As for Bukhari, he reported it from Shuba and Thawri, and did not report it from Abu Muawiya.
Hafiz said in Fath al-Bari, volume 9, page 548, "His saying 'from Abu Hazim' refers to Ashjai. Amash also has another teacher in this regard. Muslim narrated it through Abu Muawiya, from him, from Abu Yahya the freed slave of Jadah, from Abu Hurairah. He also narrated it through Abu Muawiya and a group of others, from Amash, from Abu Hazim. Bukhari confined himself to Abu Hazim, since he met his criterion, unlike Abu Yahya. Abu Yahya, the freed slave of Jadah bin Hubayra Makhzumi, was from Madinah, and he has nothing in Muslim besides this hadith.Abu Bakr bin Abu Shayba, in what Ibn Majah narrated from him, indicated that Abu Muawiya alone transmitted it saying 'from Amash, from Abu Yahya.' When he cited it through his route, he said that others differed from him in this, saying instead 'from Abu Hazim.'"Hafiz then mentioned that Daraqutni criticized this, and cited the response of Qadi Iyad mentioned earlier. Then he said, "The correct view is that there is no defect here, since Abu Muawiya narrated both versions together. This objection would only apply if he had confined himself to the narration through Abu Yahya, in which case it would then be shadhdh (anomalous). But since he agreed with the group regarding Abu Hazim, the mention of Abu Yahya becomes a pure addition that Abu Muawiya alone preserved, while the rest of Amash's companions did not, and he is among the most reliable in memorizing from him, so it is accepted. And Allah knows best." End of quote.
I say, it is possible that she preserved it correctly, and it is possible that she made a mistake in it, and Muslim mentioned it in order to point out its defect, as Qadi Iyad said, and Nawawi affirmed this, and it is the more likely view. And Allah knows best.
