A similar report was narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, but the two did not mention that he twisted it. However, in Yaqub's narration, he said, "So he gave it to him."
حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى أخبرنا عبد العزيز بن أبي حازم ح و حدثناه قتيبة بن سعيد حدثنا يعقوب يعني ابن عبد الرحمن القاري كلاهما عن أبي حازم
عن النبي ﷺ بمثله ولم يقولا فتله ولكن في رواية يعقوب قال فأعطاه إياه
