Huzaifa bin Yaman reported,

Whenever we were present at a meal with the Prophet ﷺ, we would not put our hands to the food until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began and placed his hand first. On one occasion we were at a meal with him when a Jariya came rushing in as though being pushed forward, and she went to put her hand into the food. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ caught hold of her hand. Then an Arabi came in, also as though being pushed forward, and he took hold of his hand as well. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Satan considers food lawful for himself when the name of Allah is not mentioned over it. He brought this Jariya so that he might make the food lawful through her, but I seized her hand. Then he brought this Arabi so that he might make it lawful through him, but I seized his hand. By the One in whose hand my soul is, his hand is now in my hand along with hers."
