An Arabi came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I live in a low-lying area full of lizards, and they make up most of the food of my family." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him no answer. We said to him, "Ask him again." So he repeated his question, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ still did not answer him, and this happened three times. Then on the third occasion, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out to him and said, "Arabi, Allah cursed, or was angry with, a tribe from the children of Israil and transformed them into creatures that crawl upon the earth. I do not know, perhaps this lizard is one of them. So I will not eat it, but neither do I forbid it."
