Khalid bin Walid, who is called the Sword of Allah, reported that he entered with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, who was his maternal aunt and the maternal aunt of Ibn Abbas. He found with her a roasted lizard which her sister Hufaydah bint Harith had brought from Najd. She presented the lizard to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, for it was rare that food was placed before him without him being told what it was and having it named for him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached out his hand toward the lizard, when one of the women present said, "Tell the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what you have presented to him." They said, "It is a lizard, Messenger of Allah." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew his hand.Khalid bin Walid asked, "Is the lizard forbidden, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "No, but it is not found in the land of my people, so I find myself averse to it."Khalid said, "I then pulled it toward myself and ate it while the Messenger of Allah was watching, and he did not forbid me."
