I entered the mosque and found Abdullah bin Amr bin As sitting in the shade of the Kaabah with people gathered around him. I came over and sat down with them.He said, "We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. We stopped at a place, and some of us were repairing their tents, some were practicing archery, and some were tending to their grazing animals, when the caller of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ announced, 'The prayer is to be held in congregation.' So we gathered around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, 'There was no prophet before me except that it was incumbent upon him to guide his nation to the best of what he knew for them, and to warn them against the worst of what he knew for them. As for this nation of yours, its well-being has been placed in its earliest generations, while its later generations will be afflicted with calamities and matters you will find detestable. Trials will come, one making the next seem mild by comparison. A trial will come and the believer will say, 'This is my destruction,' then it will pass. Another trial will come and the believer will say, 'This one, this one.' So whoever wishes to be removed from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, let death come to him while he believes in Allah and the Last Day, and let him treat people the way he wishes to be treated. Whoever pledges allegiance to a leader, giving him the clasp of his hand and the fruit of his heart, let him obey him if he is able. If another comes to contest his authority, then strike the neck of the latter.'"I drew close to him and said, "I adjure you by Allah, did you yourself hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He pointed with his hands to his ears and his heart and said, "My ears heard it and my heart retained it."I said to him, "But this cousin of yours, Muawiya, orders us to consume each other's wealth unjustly and to kill one another, while Allah says, 'You who believe, do not consume one another's wealth unjustly, but only through trade by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is ever Merciful to you' [Nisa 4:29]."He was silent for a moment, then said, "Obey him in obedience to Allah, and disobey him in disobedience to Allah."
حدثنا زهير بن حرب وإسحق بن إبراهيم قال إسحق أخبرنا و قال زهير حدثنا جرير عن الأعمش عن زيد بن وهب
دخلت المسجد فإذا عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص جالس في ظل الكعبة والناس مجتمعون عليه فأتيتهم فجلست إليه فقال كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في سفر فنزلنا منزلا فمنا من يصلح خباءه ومنا من ينتضل ومنا من هو في جشره إذ نادى منادي رسول الله ﷺ الصلاة جامعة فاجتمعنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال إنه لم يكن نبي قبلي إلا كان حقا عليه أن يدل أمته على خير ما يعلمه لهم وينذرهم شر ما يعلمه لهم وإن أمتكم هذه جعل عافيتها في أولها وسيصيب آخرها بلاء وأمور تنكرونها وتجيء فتنة فيرقق بعضها بعضا وتجيء الفتنة فيقول المؤمن هذه مهلكتي ثم تنكشف وتجيء الفتنة فيقول المؤمن هذه هذه فمن أحب أن يزحزح عن النار ويدخل الجنة فلتأته منيته وهو يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر وليأت إلى الناس الذي يحب أن يؤتى إليه ومن بايع إماما فأعطاه صفقة يده وثمرة قلبه فليطعه إن استطاع فإن جاء آخر ينازعه فاضربوا عنق الآخر فدنوت منه فقلت له أنشدك الله آنت سمعت هذا من رسول الله ﷺ فأهوى إلى أذنيه وقلبه بيديه وقال سمعته أذناي ووعاه قلبي فقلت له هذا ابن عمك معاوية يأمرنا أن نأكل أموالنا بيننا بالباطل ونقتل أنفسنا والله يقول {يا أيها الذين آمنوا لا تأكلوا أموالكم بينكم بالباطل إلا أن تكون تجارة عن تراض منكم ولا تقتلوا أنفسكم إن الله كان بكم رحيما} قال فسكت ساعة ثم قال أطعه في طاعة الله واعصه في معصية الله
