The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah will gather the people on the Day of Resurrection, and they will be distressed about it." Ibn Ubayd's version says, "they will be inspired about it." They will say, "If only we could seek intercession with our Lord so that He may relieve us from this place of ours."So they will go to Adam ﷺ and say, "You are Adam, the father of humankind. Allah created you with His own hand, breathed into you of His spirit, and commanded the angels to prostrate to you, and they did. Intercede for us with your Lord so He may relieve us from this place of ours."Adam will reply, "I am not the one for that." He will recall the sin he committed and feel ashamed before his Lord because of it. He will say, "But go to Nuh, the first messenger Allah sent."So they will go to Nuh ﷺ, and he will say, "I am not the one for that." He will recall the sin he committed and feel ashamed before his Lord because of it. He will say, "But go to Ibrahim ﷺ, whom Allah took as an intimate friend."So they will go to Ibrahim ﷺ, and he will say, "I am not the one for that." He will recall the sin he committed and feel ashamed before his Lord because of it. He will say, "But go to Musa ﷺ, to whom Allah spoke directly and to whom He gave the Torah."So they will go to Musa ﷺ, and he will say, "I am not the one for that." He will recall the sin he committed and feel ashamed before his Lord because of it. He will say, "But go to Isa, the spirit of Allah and His word."So they will go to Isa, the spirit of Allah and His word, and he will say, "I am not the one for that. But go to Muhammad ﷺ, a servant whose past and future sins have been forgiven."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "So they will come to me, and I will seek permission to approach my Lord, and permission will be granted. When I see Him, I will fall down in prostration, and He will leave me as long as He wills. Then it will be said, 'Muhammad, raise your head. Speak, and you will be heard. Ask, and you will be given. Intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.' So I will raise my head and praise my Lord with words of praise that He teaches me. Then I will intercede, and a limit will be set for me. I will bring them out of the Fire and admit them into Paradise. Then I will return and fall down in prostration, and He will leave me as long as He wills. Then it will be said, 'Raise your head, Muhammad. Speak, and you will be heard. Ask, and you will be given. Intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.' So I will raise my head and praise my Lord with words of praise that He teaches me. Then I will intercede, and a limit will be set for me. I will bring them out of the Fire and admit them into Paradise."The narrator said, "I do not know whether it was the third or fourth time that he said, 'I will say, My Lord, none remain in the Fire except those whom the Quran has confined,'" meaning those for whom eternity in the Fire has been decreed.Ibn Ubayd, in his narration, said that Qatada said, "Meaning those for whom eternity has been decreed."Muhammad bin al-Muthanna and Muhammad bin Bashshar narrated to us, both saying, Ibn Abu Adi narrated to us from Saeed, from Qatada, from Anas, who said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The believers will gather on the Day of Resurrection and will be distressed about it," or "will be inspired about it," similar to the hadith of Abu Awana. He said in the hadith, "Then I will come to Him a fourth time," or "I will return a fourth time, and I will say, My Lord, none remain except those whom the Quran has confined."Muhammad bin al-Muthanna narrated to us, Muaz bin Hisham narrated to us, saying, my father narrated to me from Qatada, from Anas bin Malik, that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah will gather the believers on the Day of Resurrection, and they will be inspired about it," similar to their hadith. He mentioned regarding the fourth time, "I will say, My Lord, none remain in the Fire except those whom the Quran has confined," meaning those for whom eternity has been decreed.
