On the day of Uhud, some people fled from around the Prophet ﷺ, while Abu Talha stood in front of the Prophet ﷺ shielding him with a leather shield. Abu Talha was a powerful archer with a strong draw, and that day he broke two or three bows.A man would pass by carrying a quiver full of arrows, and the Prophet ﷺ would say, "Empty it out for Abu Talha."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ would raise his head to look out at the enemy, and Abu Talha would say, "Prophet of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you, do not raise your head, lest an arrow from the enemy strike you. My chest shields yours."I saw Ayesha Bint Abu Bakr and Umm Sulaym with their garments tucked up so that I could see the anklets on their legs, carrying waterskins on their backs. They would pour the water into the men's mouths, then go back, refill them, and return again to pour it into the men's mouths. The sword fell from Abu Talha's hand two or three times because of drowsiness.

لما كان يوم أحد انهزم ناس من الناس عن النبي ﷺ وأبو طلحة بين يدي النبي ﷺ مجوب عليه بحجفة قال وكان أبو طلحة رجلا راميا شديد النزع وكسر يومئذ قوسين أو ثلاثا قال فكان الرجل يمر معه الجعبة من النبل فيقول انثرها لأبي طلحة قال ويشرف نبي الله ﷺ ينظر إلى القوم فيقول أبو طلحة يا نبي الله بأبي أنت وأمي لا تشرف لا يصبك سهم من سهام القوم نحري دون نحرك قال ولقد رأيت عائشة بنت أبي بكر وأم سليم وإنهما لمشمرتان أرى خدم سوقهما تنقلان القرب على متونهما ثم تفرغانه في أفواههم ثم ترجعان فتملآنها ثم تجيئان تفرغانه في أفواه القوم ولقد وقع السيف من يدي أبي طلحة إما مرتين وإما ثلاثا من النعاس
