When the verses "Indeed, We have granted you a clear conquest, that Allah may forgive you," up to His words, "a great triumph" [Fath 48:1–5] were revealed upon his return from Hudaybiyyah, while sorrow and gloom still mingled among them and he had already sacrificed the offering at Hudaybiyyah, he said, "A verse has been revealed to me that is dearer to me than the entire world."

لما نزلت {إنا فتحنا لك فتحا مبينا ليغفر لك الله} إلى قوله {فوزا عظيما} مرجعه من الحديبية وهم يخالطهم الحزن والكآبة وقد نحر الهدي بالحديبية فقال لقد أنزلت علي آية هي أحب إلي من الدنيا جميعا
