A man said to Bara, "Abu Umarah, did you all flee on the day of Hunayn?"He replied, "No, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not turn away. Rather, some of the young and lightly equipped among his companions went out without armor, or without much armor, and they encountered a people of skilled archers whose arrows hardly ever missed, the gathered tribes of Hawazin and Banu Nasr. They showered them with arrows that scarcely missed their mark. So the people came back toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on his white mule, with Abu Sufyan bin Harith bin Abdul-Muttalib leading it. He dismounted and prayed for victory, saying, 'I am the Prophet, no lie. I am the son of Abdul-Muttalib.' Then he arranged them in ranks."
حدثنا يحيى بن يحيى أخبرنا أبو خيثمة
قال رجل للبراء يا أبا عمارة أفررتم يوم حنين قال لا والله ما ولى رسول الله ﷺ ولكنه خرج شبان أصحابه وأخفاؤهم حسرا ليس عليهم سلاح أو كثير سلاح فلقوا قوما رماة لا يكاد يسقط لهم سهم جمع هوازن وبني نصر فرشقوهم رشقا ما يكادون يخطئون فأقبلوا هناك إلى رسول الله ﷺ ورسول الله ﷺ على بغلته البيضاء وأبو سفيان بن الحارث بن عبد المطلب يقود به فنزل فاستنصر وقال أنا النبي لا كذب أنا ابن عبد المطلب ثم صفهم
