Kathir bin Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib related to me that Abbas said, "I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn. Abu Sufyan bin Harith bin Abdul-Muttalib and I stayed close beside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and never left him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was riding a white mule that Farwa bin Nuama Judhami had given him as a gift. When the Muslims and the disbelievers met, the Muslims turned and fled, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began urging his mule forward toward the disbelievers."Abbas continued, "I was holding the bridle of the Messenger of Allah's mule ﷺ, restraining it so that it would not race ahead, while Abu Sufyan held his stirrup.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Abbas, call out to the companions of the acacia tree.'"Abbas, who had a powerful voice, said, "So I called at the top of my voice, 'Where are the companions of the acacia tree?' By Allah, when they heard my voice they wheeled around the way cows turn back to their calves, calling out, 'Here we are! Here we are!'Then they fought the disbelievers, and the call went out among the Ansar, who shouted, 'Men of the Ansar! Men of the Ansar!' Then the call narrowed to the clan of Harith bin Khazraj, and they shouted, 'Sons of Harith bin Khazraj! Sons of Harith bin Khazraj!'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, still on his mule, stretched himself up to look out over the fighting and said, 'Now the furnace is blazing hot.'Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took some pebbles and threw them at the faces of the disbelievers and said, 'They are routed, by the Lord of Muhammad!' I went and looked, and the fighting seemed to me to be still as it had been. But by Allah, from the moment he threw those pebbles at them, I saw their edge grow blunt and their cause turn to retreat."He said Farwa bin Nuama Judhami, and he said, "They are routed, by the Lord of the Kaaba! They are routed, by the Lord of the Kaaba!" And he added in the report, "until Allah routed them." He said, "It is as though I can still see the Prophet ﷺ charging after them on his mule."
و حدثناه إسحق بن إبراهيم ومحمد بن رافع وعبد بن حميد جميعا عن عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر عن الزهري بهذا الإسناد نحوه غير أنه قال فروة بن نعامة الجذامي وقال انهزموا ورب الكعبة انهزموا ورب الكعبة وزاد في الحديث حتى هزمهم الله قال وكأني أنظر إلى النبي ﷺ يركض خلفهم على بغلته
