I saw Maez bin Malik when he was brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He was a short, muscular man without a cloak. He testified against himself four times that he had committed adultery.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Perhaps you only..."He replied, "No, by Allah, the wretch has indeed committed adultery."So he had him stoned. Then he delivered a sermon and said, "Whenever we set out as a raiding party in the path of Allah, one of them stays behind making a sound like the bleating of a male goat, offering one of them a small gift of milk. By Allah, if Allah gives me power over any such man, I will make an example of him."
و حدثني أبو كامل فضيل بن حسين الجحدري حدثنا أبو عوانة عن سماك بن حرب
رأيت ماعز بن مالك حين جيء به إلى النبي ﷺ رجل قصير أعضل ليس عليه رداء فشهد على نفسه أربع مرات أنه زنى فقال رسول الله ﷺ فلعلك قال لا والله إنه قد زنى الأخر قال فرجمه ثم خطب فقال ألا كلما نفرنا غازين في سبيل الله خلف أحدهم له نبيب كنبيب التيس يمنح أحدهم الكثبة أما والله إن يمكني من أحدهم لأنكلنه عنه
