Ayesha reported,

The Quraysh were greatly concerned about the case of a woman who had stolen during the time of the Prophet ﷺ in the campaign of the Conquest. They said, "Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about her?"They said, "Who would dare approach him except Usama bin Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"So she was brought before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Usama bin Zayd spoke to him on her behalf. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed color, and he said, "Do you intercede concerning one of the prescribed punishments of Allah?"Usama said to him, "Ask forgiveness for me, Messenger of Allah."When evening came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and addressed the people. He praised Allah as He deserves to be praised, then said, "To proceed. What destroyed those who came before you was that when a noble person among them stole, they would let him go, but when a weak person among them stole, they would carry out the prescribed punishment on him. By Him in whose hand is my soul, if Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, I would cut off her hand."Then he ordered that the hand of the woman who had stolen be cut off, and it was done.Yunus said, Ibn Shihab said, Urwa said, Ayesha said, "Her repentance was excellent afterward, and she married. She used to come to me after that, and I would convey her requests to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
