The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The blood of a Muslim who testifies that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah may not lawfully be shed except for one of three things, adultery committed by someone who has been married, a life taken for a life, and abandoning one's religion and separating from the community."
