A hired worker of Yala bin Munyah was bitten on the arm by a man. He pulled his arm away, and the biter's front tooth fell out. The case was brought before the Prophet ﷺ, who dismissed the claim and said, "Did you want to chew his arm as a stallion chews?"
حدثني أبو غسان المسمعي حدثنا معاذ بن هشام حدثني أبي عن قتادة عن بديل عن عطاء بن أبي رباح
أن أجيرا ليعلى بن منية عض رجل ذراعه فجذبها فسقطت ثنيته فرفع إلى النبي ﷺ فأبطلها وقال أردت أن تقضمها كما يقضم الفحل
They agreed on a hadith with its chain of transmission, "as the stallion bites," from Ibn Jurayj and Hammam, from Ataa. Muslim narrated it from Ghundar, from Shuba, from Qatada, from Ataa. And also from Abu Ghassan, from Muaz, from his father, from Qatada, from Budayl, from Ataa, and this represents a divergence regarding Qatada.
Hafiz, may Allah have mercy on him, said in Fath al-Bari, volume 12, page 222, "Muslim narrated it through the route of Shuba, from Qatada, from Ataa, from Ibn Yaala, from his father, and also through the route of Hammam, from Ataa, in the same manner. It appears in Bukhari, in the book of Hajj, in a shortened form joined to the hadith of the man who asked about Umrah. It also comes through the route of Hisham Dastawai, from Qatada, and this version differs from the narration of Shuba in two respects. First, he inserted Budayl bin Maysara between Qatada and Ataa. Second, he related it without a full chain, and its wording is 'from Safwan bin Yaala, that a hired worker of Yaala bin Umaya bit a man's forearm.'Daraqutni objected to Muslim for including this route, and also for including the route of Muhammad bin Sirin from Imran, since Ibn Sirin did not hear directly from him. Nawawi answered this, and the substance of his answer is that supporting narrations are excused for things that would not be excused in primary narrations, and this is as he said."
