I came upon Abu Musa while he was eating chicken meat, and he related the hadith similarly to their narration, with this addition, he said, "By Allah, I have not forgotten it."

Muslim reported through Shayban, from Saq bin Hazn, from Matar Warraq, from Zahdam, from Abu Musa, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, the account of his oath, "By Allah, I will not carry you." Saq and Matar are not among the strong narrators, and moreover Matar did not hear it directly from Zahdam but rather reported it from Qasim bin Asim, from him. This was stated by Thabit bin Hammad, from Matar.
I say, as for the explicit statement of "reporting directly" (tahdith) in Sahih Muslim, it may stem from an error on the part of Matar, or Saqa, or Shayban bin Farroukh, for each of these has been described as prone to error. The upshot is that the hadith is daif by this chain of transmission, but this does not harm it, because it occurs among the corroborating narrations, and perhaps Muslim mentioned it in order to point out its defect through this particular chain. The hadith is established in the Sahihayn and other collections from the narration of Abu Musa through a different route. And Allah knows best.
