Umar acquired a piece of land at Khaybar, so he came to the Prophet ﷺ to consult him about it. He said, "Messenger of Allah, I have acquired land at Khaybar, and I have never come by any property dearer to me than it. What do you advise me to do with it?"The Prophet said, "If you wish, you may keep the land itself and give away its yield as charity."So Umar gave it away as charity, stipulating that the land itself was not to be sold, nor bought, nor inherited, nor given away as a gift. He designated its charity for the poor, for relatives, for freeing slaves, for the cause of Allah, for the traveler, and for the guest. There was no blame on whoever administered it if he ate from it in a reasonable manner or fed a friend from it, so long as he did not treat it as his own property.Ibn Awn said, "I related this hadith to Muhammad, and when I reached the phrase 'so long as he did not treat it as his own property,' Muhammad said, 'without amassing wealth from it.'"Ibn Awn added, "Someone who had read this document informed me that it contained the wording 'without amassing wealth from it.'"
و حدثناه أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا ابن أبي زائدة ح و حدثنا إسحق أخبرنا أزهر السمان ح و حدثنا محمد بن المثنى حدثنا ابن أبي عدي كلهم عن ابن عون بهذا الإسناد مثله غير أن حديث ابن أبي زائدة وأزهر انتهى عند قوله أو يطعم صديقا غير متمول فيه ولم يذكر ما بعده وحديث ابن أبي عدي فيه ما ذكر سليم قوله فحدثت بهذا الحديث محمدا إلى آخره
