Three of the sons of Saad bin Malik narrated to me, each of them relating it just as his companion did, and he said, Saad fell ill in Makkah, so the Prophet ﷺ came to visit him. Amr bin Saeed reported it from Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman Himyari, from three of Saad's sons, each of them narrating it from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ came in to visit Saad during his illness in Makkah, and Saad wept.The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What makes you weep?"Saad replied, "I feared that I would die in the very land I emigrated from, just as Saad bin Khawla died."So the Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah, heal Saad. Allah, heal Saad," three times.Saad said, "Messenger of Allah, I have a great deal of wealth, and only my daughter will inherit from me. Shall I bequeath all of my wealth?"He said, "No."Saad asked, "Then two thirds?"He said, "No."Saad asked, "Then half?"He said, "No."Saad asked, "Then a third?"He said, "A third, and even a third is a lot. Your charity given from your wealth is a charity, your spending on your dependents is a charity, and what your wife eats from your wealth is a charity. And if you leave your family well provided for," or he said, "with a livelihood, that is better than leaving them to beg from people." And he gestured with his hand.
