We used to engage in sharecropping during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, taking a portion from the straw and from such and such. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever has land, let him cultivate it or let his brother cultivate it, otherwise let him leave it."
