Ayesha reported,

Three rulings were established through the case of Barirah. Her owners wanted to sell her on the condition that they retain her right of guardianship. Aishah mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Buy her and free her, for guardianship belongs to the one who grants freedom."She said, "She was freed, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave her the choice regarding her marriage, and she chose herself."She also said, "People used to give her charity, and she would give gifts from it to us. I mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, 'It is charity for her and a gift to you, so eat it.'"
