We were in the mosque on Friday night when a man from the Ansar came and said, "If a man finds another man with his wife and speaks of it, you flog him. If he kills the man, you kill him. And if he stays silent, he stays silent while choking on his rage. By Allah, I will ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this."The next day, he went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him, "If a man finds another man with his wife and speaks of it, you flog him. If he kills him, you kill him. And if he stays silent, he stays silent while choking on his rage."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah, give a clear answer," and he began to supplicate. Then the verse of liaan was revealed, "And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves..." [Nur 24:6], and the verses that follow.That very man, of all people, was tested by this matter. He came with his wife to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they performed the mutual cursing. The man bore witness four times by Allah that he was telling the truth, then a fifth time invoking the curse of Allah upon himself if he was lying.Then she came forward to swear, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Stop." But she refused and went on to swear.When they had turned to leave, he said, "It may be that she will give birth to a dark, curly-haired child." And she did give birth to a dark, curly-haired child.
حدثنا زهير بن حرب وعثمان بن أبي شيبة وإسحق بن إبراهيم واللفظ لزهير قال إسحق أخبرنا وقال الآخران حدثنا جرير عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن علقمة
إنا ليلة الجمعة في المسجد إذ جاء رجل من الأنصار فقال لو أن رجلا وجد مع امرأته رجلا فتكلم جلدتموه أو قتل قتلتموه وإن سكت سكت على غيظ والله لأسألن عنه رسول الله ﷺ فلما كان من الغد أتى رسول الله ﷺ فسأله فقال لو أن رجلا وجد مع امرأته رجلا فتكلم جلدتموه أو قتل قتلتموه أو سكت سكت على غيظ فقال اللهم افتح وجعل يدعو فنزلت آية اللعان {والذين يرمون أزواجهم ولم يكن لهم شهداء إلا أنفسهم} هذه الآيات فابتلي به ذلك الرجل من بين الناس فجاء هو وامرأته إلى رسول الله ﷺ فتلاعنا فشهد الرجل أربع شهادات بالله إنه لمن الصادقين ثم لعن الخامسة أن لعنة الله عليه إن كان من الكاذبين فذهبت لتلعن فقال لها رسول الله ﷺ مه فأبت فلعنت فلما أدبرا قال لعلها أن تجيء به أسود جعدا فجاءت به أسود جعدا
